A community children's string ensemble
The String Beans evolved from modest beginnings in 2000 when a group of parents whose children were learning string instruments at the local school got together to share the cost of paying a conductor, Andrew Patrick to create an ensemble. Andrew has been instrumental in the continual development and success of the orchestra ever since.
The ensemble has since grown from the nine-strong membership in the first year to a full 18-piece ensemble in 2006 and has 25 members in 2009.
In 2004 NoFCAD Inc was incorporated as a separate organisation to run the String Beans and beginner Bean Sprouts program.
In 2005 NoFCAD introduced drama improvisation classes to complement the string program.
And for older students...an intermediate ensemble
In 2009 NoFCAD started the Harvest ensemble, an intermediate ensemble program for players in years 7-10. The Harvest Ensemble has achieved a high level of musicianship with chamber music, and will continue in 2010.
The String Beans and Bean Sprouts have been supported by grants from ArtsWA since 2002 and NoFCAD has employed an administrator since 2007.
